Gary Battle finished his career at the University of New Haven as one of the most prolific scorers in school history and remains third all-time with 1,959 career points.Â
His highlight season came as a junior in 1989-90 when he was named an All-American and All-New England Collegiate Conference. He finished that season with 631 points, which remains among the top-10 single season scoring totals in school history. That same season he finished with 60 three pointers, which at the time was the second most in a single season behind only teammate Brian Smith who hit 71 that same season. He also remains among the top-10 in single season free throw percentage from 1989-90 when he made 115-of-139 attempts for 82.7 percent.Â
As a sophomore in 1988-89, Battle set a school record that remains to this day, when he hit 55-of-113 three point field goal attempts for a .487 percentage, two-tenths better than the next closest.Â
In addition to his 1,959 points, Battle is also listed among the top-10 all-time in field goals made (7th, 722), three point field goals made (t-3rd, 190), three point field goal percentage (3rd, .408), free throws made (t-5th, 325) and free throw percentage (3rd, .827). Overall, Battle added 253 career assists and 113 steals.
Following his career at the University of New Haven, Battle was drafted by the CBA and was invited to an NBA try-out with the Detroit Pistons.
