In recognition of his continued support to the University of New Haven, David Peterson becomes the fourth inductee of the Athletics Hall of Fame to be honored with the Alumni Award of Excellence.

A former defensive end on the New Haven football team, Peterson is a member of the University’s Board of Governors and an owner and operator of a number of successful businesses over the past two decades.

On the gridiron, Peterson’s career began as an outside linebacker in 1983 before redshirting his sophomore season due to injury. He would return with a vengeance to anchor the defensive line from 1985 to 1987. All total, Peterson collected 152 tackles including a career-high 77 as a senior. Among his 77 tackles were 10 sacks, a number that remains sixth highest in the single season record books. His leadership helped the Chargers to back-to-back eight win seasons, the most wins in a single season since joining the ranks of NCAA Division II. Overall, the Chargers combined for 24 wins during Peterson’s tenure.

Since his graduation, his passion for the Department of Athletics has helped to build the Chargers into a regional power in several sports including football, which has made two trips to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship game and two appearances in the NCAA tournament in the past decade.

Away from the University, Peterson is the CEO of 4 Media Online, a credit card technology and consulting business with locations in Florida, Los Angeles, Toronto and Spain. The company insures maximum expertise and superior fraud protection.

As a member of the Board of Governors, Peterson helps to organize the University’s yearly alumni football reunion in Florida, which brings together former Charger football players for three days of networking and socializing. The event, which this past winter included a special section at the NFL Pro Bowl Game, generates support for the Charger football program.

Peterson credits his time at New Haven and with the athletic programs for instilling in him a commitment to give back to the community. Among his many community activities is the Soldiers’ Angels, an organization that provides aid and comfort to the men and women of the U.S. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and their families. Additionally, he is a member of Indian Princess Seminole Nation, an organization dedicated to providing services that enrich the father and daughter bond. He is involved with Soles4Souls, which distributes shoes to people in need.
