PHOTO GALLERY In two seasons with the New Haven women’s volleyball program, Lisa Reza solidified herself as one of the most successful all-around players in UNH history. Reza excelled as a hitter and a setter for the Chargers during the 1988 and 1989 seasons.
In her first season, Reza made an immediate impact for the Chargers. She led the team in assists with 997 and in digs with 274. Her 332 kills were second on the team as was her .293 hitting percentage as a junior. The setter also led the Chargers’ postseason honors as an All-New England Collegiate Conference First Team selection. She also helped lead the Chargers to a 44-6 record, the NCAA Tournament and the national quarterfinals during her junior season.
Leading the Chargers to another NCAA postseason appearance, Reza played as an outside hitter and setter during the 1989 season. She led the team in nearly every statistical category throughout her senior campaign. With 476 kills, 655 assists, 355 digs and 105 aces, she led the Chargers all over the court. She also led the team with a .400 hitting percentage in her final season. On her way to the program’s eighth-straight conference title, Reza was named the All-New England Collegiate Conference Most Valuable Player and earned her second All-Conference selection in 1989. The American Volleyball Coaches Association also recognized the El Paso, Texas native as an All-Region honoree following her senior season.
After her collegiate career at UNH, Reza went on to try out for the U.S. Olympic team during the 1989-90 season in Colorado Springs.
In her short two-years at New Haven, Reza’s totals are astonishing. She played in nearly 100 matches, recorded 808 kills, 1,652 assists, 246 service aces and 629 digs. She grabbed the single-season service aces record in 1988 with 141 and ranks among the top 10 in career service aces (4th, 246) and career assists (10th, 1,672). Reza helped lead the Chargers to a pair of NECC Championships, two NCAA Regional appearances and a 77-17 overall record during her two years.
